I sometimes volunteer at our local Humane Society, and another volunteer told me about a woman who came in yesterday to give her cat away. The woman was sobbing, so my friend asked her if she was okay. The woman said she was moving and they don’t allow pets in her new place, so she had to give up her Maine Coon Cat for adoption. She explained that they found the cat when it was a stray kitten, and have had it for 10 years.
My friend asked her if her cat had a microchip, and the woman said no they never had one put in. Well, the first thing they did was run a scan and the cat DID have a microchip. They called the contact number and found out that another family had adopted this cat when it was just a kitten, but it ran away and they never saw it again. They had gotten it for their 8-year-old daughter, who is now 18 years old.
The family was overjoyed and came in right away to pick up their long-last cat from our shelter.
Isn’t that fantastic? Microchipping really works, we see it practically every day. If you have a cat or a dog, be sure to get it microchipped. You never know.
