I was raised catholic, not devout, I barely go to church and I understand there are very unsavory things about the catholic religion. But I am standing up for it now. Your message was cut off in the middle of a sentence. Of course there are many good priests and nuns and lay people working in the Catholic Church. But a fish stinks from the head, and the head of the Church - the Pope and the Cardinals and the Bishops - is deeply reactionary on so many issues. Their homophobia literally kills. They are fighting to stigmatize queer people, to make sure we don’t get equal rights.  They are patriarchal, too, keeping women in second-class status. And the way they permitted priests to molest children, and protected those rapists from the law, is a shame that will never go away. As far as I’m concerned, the Catholic Church is a criminal enterprise. They ought to have their property confiscated and given to the Quakers and the Unitarians.
